Young Climate Stewards is a one-off, fully funded forest school day for young people aged 11–14, generously supported by St Francis Credit Union. It's a day to slow down, play, and get comfortable in the woods: with some eco-creative projects, a bit of biodiversity spotting, and simple nature-based activities woven in along the way.
A first step into noticing nature: Through simple biodiversity spotting and hands-on activities in the park, the day is about sparking curiosity, and hopefully, a lasting sense of care and responsibility for the natural world.
Child-led, not prescribed: Led by two qualified Forest School Leaders with one assistant, the day is responsive and exploration-based. Learning goals are woven naturally into hands-on projects, play, and discovery, so engagement is genuine rather than forced.
Built for this age group: Designed specifically for 11–14 year olds, at an age when they're often overlooked by nature-based programmes but are most open to shaping how they relate to the natural world.
Genuinely inclusive: We're working with CISC and local youth centres to help build a group that reflects the real diversity of young people in Ennis, including those who may otherwise have fewer opportunities to access nature-based programmes. Inclusion is central to how we work.
Completely free: Thanks to St Francis Credit Union, there is no cost to participate.
The day unfolds with its own rhythm, shaped in part by the group.
We begin with circle time, a chance to arrive, connect, and settle into the surroundings. Then we play a game to break the ice. From there. the day moves through eco-creative projects, a hands-on biodiversity survey of the park, and small-scale climate actions the group carries out together. There's space for skill-building, tool use, fire lighting, and foraging, always following the mood and interests of the group. Free time is woven throughout for exploring, climbing, and following curiosity, and there's a shared meal around the fire.
Participation is always encouraged, never forced. Every young person's pace is respected.

What to Bring: A packed lunch, plenty of water, a spare set of clothes, and waterproofs. Please label everything with your child's name.
What to Wear: Clothes that can get dirty. Wellies or sturdy outdoor shoes, layers, and long trousers. If in doubt, dress for rain and hope for sunshine ☀️
Inclusion: We warmly welcome young people of all abilities and backgrounds. If your child has additional needs or you'd like to chat before booking, please get in touch, we're always happy to talk it through.
Toilets: A compost toilet is available on site.
After Booking: A confirmation email will be sent a few days before the session, with drop-off and pick-up details, site information, and everything else you need. Keep an eye on your inbox and spam folder.
